Once again I was prowling the local Patel Brothers Indian/Pakistani grocery for no good reason, looking at the spices. I saw a new type of pepper, under the name of GOLE MIRCH SABITH. I surfed around a bit and it looks like "mirch" is an Urdu word, sort of a general catch-all like "pepper" in English. The pods are small, with some variation in shape. Most are rounded and tapered with a slight point, some look like miniature habs or scotch bonnets. I found a description at backyardgardener.com but that calls for a finger-length pod while these are closer to the size of a thumbnail. I haven't tasted them yet but the aroma seems to resemble a cayennne. Is anyone familiar with these? I may try to sprout some seeds but I have no idea if they're viable. The brand is Desi Mills Inc. of Toronto, but they don't seem to have a website. - A
