Tomatillos are self-incompatible. That is, more than one plant is needed for pollination. For a couple of years I grew a single plant and would get lots of blossoms but very few fruit. I stumbled on the self-incompatibility problem on the web and now have plenty of fruit. I don't snap flowers off.
