I just picked a couple of jalapeņos turning red,
but just beneath the waxy surface, there are
numerous whitish "blossoms" that are about
1/2 cm. in diameter. The chiles look almost
marbled. I have the Field Guide to Pepper
diseases put out by the Asian Vegetable Research
and Development Center, and the only thing that
looks like a possible explanation is Tomato
Spotted Wilt, a thrips-transmitted
topovirus. Has anyone had this disease hit their
chiles? I've been growing chiles for over 30
years, and never had this problem before. I
don't think I'll be eating these diseased
critters. I'm on digest, so if anyone has a
comment, please send backchannel. Thanks, Margaret Lauterbach
