Back from a *crazy* couple of weeks of travelling. Settling in to get orders out the door, answer 400 some e-mails, and finish work on OF 2008. Glancing at some of the notes from the last couple of weeks & trying to answer them as I remember them.... OF 2008 contest is still on. I've received several commercial entries, though not many. Those attending can enter 'fresh from the fields' day of with no issues- seemed to be a bit of confusion on that. Hapypy to get with folks that are in town on Thursday and have dinner again. The place we ate last time (Richard's Kitchen) was flooded (along with the rest of the town) but has re-opened. I'll need a head count for them, so please let me know if you'll be here that early. I'd like the raffle to be on Saturday evening, if that's kosher and/or hal-al with everyone. That's usually the largest crowd. All we have to do is hope for good weather now :-) The chile crop has been discussed a couple of times, though I can never remember or keep straight if it's here, the rogues, or any of the half-dozen blogs I'm supposed to keep up with :-) The chiles are doing fine, though they got a bit thirsty. I checked them before I left for the Ft Worth/9-11/South Carolina road tour and they were doing quite well. Not as far behind as I'd thought they'd be for not being planted until July! I'll take another look this week (I hope) as I still have to mark them, get maps, last minute weeding, port-o-let placement, grass mowing, and what not. There's going to be a bit of walking this year. For those familiar with the location, it's right on the main drive as you come in which puts them a bit of a hike from the camp area. Thanks for the kind wishes on the 9-11 stuff Doug (and others). Really mixed emotions on that. Kind of neat and terrible all at the same time. A lot of really touching human stuff- like when the Pres jumped the railing & visited with the family members. Totally unscripted judging from the number of 'men in black' who started running all over the place talking into their collars :-) I think he caught them off guard with that. Got close enough to shake his hand and get an autograph. I was also touched by the folks at the Pentagon. There was to be another very small private gathering at the re-built offices inside but *somebody* (of ALL times & places!) forgot to pack his ID with his dress uniform when he left that morning. Other stuff on my mind I guess ;-) My escort & I explained the situation to the security staff and they acted as humans and let me pass. I was very thankful. Inside the Pentagon during a presidential visit without so much as a library card :-) Even got to work on someone inside that dropped out during the ceremony- never off duty ;-) Caught news reports of the devestation from Ike. Been in contact wth several of the TX crowd off list & most seemed to have 'weathered the storm' okay. Amazing that it even did damage up here! CaJohn is stil without power though they tell him it should be on this weekend. Best of luck to y'all! See you soon! Prayers are with you Hobby- suck it up cupcake! :-) -Jim C http://www.StepUpForCharity.org Mild to Wild(R)
