The market held its annual festival, this year I entered a hot sauce and did a little volunteer work. My sauce didn't place (they only announced first and second) but it got 52 points and the winner got 58. I took a bunch of pictures, including this series of a jalapeno-eating contest: The rules were, everyone gets a plate of large jalapenos (I think it was 10) with a 4-minute limit, and whoever finishes first wins. If no one finishes within the time limit, the one with the fewest remaining peppers wins. The peppers had to be eaten to the stems, if any flesh or seed mass remained the pepper did not count. Starting out, perky and comfortable and ready to go http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/HabaneroHead/Around%20Town/P2200089.jpg (there were about 15 other contestants but I was assigned to watch these) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/HabaneroHead/Around%20Town/P2200103.jpg Starting to show some wear as the time passes http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/HabaneroHead/Around%20Town/P2200104.jpg Arrrg, stems http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/HabaneroHead/Around%20Town/P2200111.jpg Time's up, and two contestants were down to three peppers http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/HabaneroHead/Around%20Town/P2200116.jpg The contest goes to sudden death, CaJohn (at left) selects one nice ripe pod for each. First to finish wins. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/HabaneroHead/Around%20Town/P2200121.jpg The winner http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/HabaneroHead/Around%20Town/P2200128.jpg http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2010/02/21/Hot_peppers.ART_ART_02-21-10_B5_I1GLBTE.html?sid=101 _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft’s powerful SPAM protection. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/201469226/direct/01/
