My very late parents turned me on to that usage away back when I was very young. My father born in Ireland, my mother born in Toronto but who grew up in Belfast and Glammis Scotland, close to the birthplace of the late Queen Mother, whose name was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons, and married George who later became King George 6th, and the parents of our present Queen Elizabeth. She is three months younger than I am being born April 21 and I was born Jan 4th same year, 1926. Malt vinegar on English fish and chips was the way to go when I was growing up In Toronto, at that time a solid English, Irish, Scots enclave we had English Fish and Chip shops on just about every corner. As we left there in 1952 when I joined the RCAF as a photographer, we never returned to live in the city of my birth. It has certainly changed since then, and after over 5 years in the Air Force, I left and went into the music business, where I remained for over 25 years. We have a few different types of vinegar in our pantry. Ordinary white vinegar, Asian flavored vinegar, malt vinegar, Chinese black vinegar, and of course balsamic! I have two different types of balsamic one bottle which is 40 years old, and the 10 year stuff we use any time I do Italian. All vinegars are good and each have their own uses. Glad we share a love for malt vinegar! Cheers, Doug in BC
