If you have black mold on your gourd stems from leaving them outdoors to dry a good way to clean it off is foaming bathroom cleanser (Lysol, Dow, etc.) I tried some of the foam on some patches of gourd skin that were very hard to remove, especially where gourds sat on the ground. Figured it was worth a try. Can't say it was easy to remove after that, but it did soften it up more than just water. Also, I clean my gourds off with a vinegar solution, not bleach. That way you can take the solution when done and water some acid loving plants. Also, easier on the hands! Lillian Kepp thekepps@bright.net
