[tomato] Mulches

Please understand, I do not use mulches of any kind. I just passed
the data for those who want to use it.

I tried organic compost and black plastic, After about 3 weeks I rolled
the stuff back, The numbers of bugs and moldy looking stuff I
saw under there, I decided it wasn't worth having it around my plants.
My thoughts were, I would rather have a little less production than
maye the loss of the whole plant(s).

My mind wonders how you get enough water with plastic ?
By the time you add an underground watering and feeding
system, you have added so many $$ to your crop. Is it
worth it?? And how do you control underground bugs like
cutworm and wireworm. No published data (that I have found)
on how plastic mulches affect these thugs.

I would also think in the real summer heat that plastic mulches
would contribute to plant aspiration. I have yet to see any data on this
item.
