Don't let him do it again. Many of the chemicals used in the
construction of fireworks are deadly poisonous. Read an MSDS sheet on
the following:

Barium nitrate
Strontium nitrate
Potassium chlorate and perchlorate
Antimony trisulphide
Potassium dichromate

Nasty stuff, folks. If you love your pets, keep them away from
fireworks!
