Sounds like Sate Sauce. I've got some which is by Huy Fong Foods, 
labeled Tia Chieu Sa-te. Good as a marinade before grilling chicken
but the label states: "Delicious as a dipping sauce, too." It comes in 
an 8 oz. plastic jar with a lime green plastic top.
