Go to a medical supply place and ask for "pH test paper", not litmus paper.
I found out the hard way that "litmus paper" comes in blue or pink and simply
changes color in the presence of acid or alkali (can't remember offhand which
color reacts with what) but "pH test paper" turns a specific color with a
specific pH.
