Here in Oz,
           We would tend to use Subsonics or Z's 22 cal on feral dogs. 
These will Kill at 50yds, don't make much noise and don't travel all 
that far specially if you have a can (oops) 
muzzle flash suppressor on the front of the firearm.
I don't as these are sort of frowned upon here in Oz.
though I do know a Canuck who owns a bit of property down here who uses 
a 300 Savage with 180 grain pills to good effect on Feral Dogs, He 
claims they don't turn around and look at you like those bears in Canada 
did sometimes.
 Seriously though Feral Dogs are a problem, a mate of mine here lost 3 
Stud Bulls to a pack --Value in USD would have beem about $5000.00.
