For quick and effective groundhog control, Dr. Dave recommends a dose of
lead administered between the eyes of the varmint.  Sometimes, though, the
side effects (pissed neighbors, for example) makes this treatment difficult.

A friend of mine had a serious groundhog problem last year.  We strung an
electric fence around her garden, and the hogs went elsewhere for their
meals. A 6-volt battery-operated model will electrify a 25-mile perimeter.
The most expensive part is the controller at about $65.
