Hi Patrick!
   Yea, seen enough of those nature shows to know Momma bear has a really
bad case of PMS & Child Rearing Dysfunction that if you get any where near
the cubs, you are in a very bad situation. My question was/Doug wrote, Snip:

Never fuss with a momma bear if the cubs are with her....for that matter,

If the cubs ain't with her...how do you tell if the bear is female?
