Being from New Mexico and the South Pecos Valley Chile growing area
(better than Hatch, IMHO-its hotter, drier weather, lower altitude, and
better, cleaner water- it hasn't flowed, like the Rio Grande mud stream,
through Los Alamos( LA National Lab), Santa Fe, Socorro (New Mexico
Tech(Energetic Materials Lab, ie explosives) Albuquerque(Sandia National
Lab) waste water full of plutonium, arsenic and sulpheric acid.), I give
up! I am going to try the new Bhut Jolokia seeds from NMSU. By the way,
for you neophytes talking about Chimayo Chile, Velarde Chile is actually
the first, oldest and most traditional chile in New Mexico, not
Chimayo, and it is still grown in great quantities by the Garza family
in Velarde as well as other chile producers in Velarde, where the
Spanish Colonists from Mexico first settled and brought seeds with
Onate. (Mexico had chile long before New Mexico!!!!) Its just that they
are making money at it, and have kept up their chile production and
their acequias, which Chimayo has not. So all the Califa and New York
furiners in Santa Fe with bleeding hearts are whining about Chimayo, but
only for 3 months of the year. They go home to Nu Yrk and Califa after
that. We also have Texans, but they don't eat Numex chile, don't whine,
they are just abnoxious and spend lot of money so New Mexico can survive
as a banana republic. It is really hot, hotter than Espanola Chile.
Just thought I would add some REAL chile knowledge and dis-cuss-able
controversy to the list.
