We're about to get side-swiped by what is currently tropical depression ten, but is forecast to be either a subtropical or tropical storm by later today. No big deal in general (hey, even a cat 1 hurricane isn't *THAT* big of a deal...if you've got your hurricane supplies lined up in advance) ... lots of wind, a ***LOT*** of rain, and more than likely, a power outage for anywhere between 4--6 hours and, in extreme cases, a day. BFD. What I'm worried about...is my pepper plants outside. It's been a few years, and what memory I had on this topic from previous storms got nuked during the triple brain surgery (cancer)...so here's a question for the group.... How well are my pepper plants likely to survive the tropical storm force winds (may or may not actually *BE* a TS---might be a sub-ts), but the wind speeds will still be around 35 kt (40 mph) or higher, with higher gusts, by some time this evening. There's no room in this little place to bring the plants in, so it's not as if I can do anything about it, but.... Any thoughts on this? I'm also asking for future reference: what wind speeds can most pepper plants generally survive? Or does it vary too much with the size/location of the plant to make any kind of general estimate?
