Wow.  I think this is the first time ever I have seen someone say
jalapenos taste BETTER than serranos.  It's rare enough that someone
thinks jalapenos taste better than ANY capsicum.  Of course, quite a
few people do like the taste of jalapeno (and quite a few are amazed
by this) but don't necessarily have any preference over it for other
chiles, like say, serranos (generally considered the standard flavor
upgrade of choice from jalapeno).  But lots and lots of bell peppers
are consumed here, so clearly that flavor is liked by many.

I like serranos, but if you want to upgrade flavor from serranos, of
course Ajo Amarillo is always numero uno though hotter (really, most
any Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum cultivar will do).  And rocoto
(C. pubescens) is pretty tasty too.  Even chile poblano should never
be forgotten in the flavor department, and sometimes they're even
pretty hot.  Gee, the thought of that souffle made with ripe rocotos
seems pretty appealing.
