Risa,

Thanks for heads up!

Something that I don't understand... is it simply because people aren't
washing them before they eat them? How does the border patrol know which to
let enter and which ones not?

The only pods I've purchased in the last year were bells & I now have a nice
steady supply of Spanish Spice to take their place so don't expect to have
to ever purchase pods
again. I'm a salad freak and purchase those "Thoroughly Washed" (says
right on the pkg) salad mixes all the time for my only meal of the day 2 or
3
times a week. Now I'm worried about those. Vidalia onions and occasional
bag of baby carrots pretty much sums up my produce purchases except for an
occasional muskmelon and the Granny Smith apples that use in ferments and
making sauerkraut.

Did anyone else see this on Yahoo?
 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080818/ap_on_re_us/salmonella_peppers
It seems that those jalapenos that made people sick have been rejected many
times by the border patrol. It seems that they have stopped more shipments
of those peppers but the ones that got through made 1400 people ill.
Anyway, I saw the article and thought others might be interested,
especially if you aren't a member of Yahoo. I am sure this isn't absolutely
the newest information but I found it interesting.
I am finally getting ripe chiles from the garden so I don't need to buy any
from the supermarket or farmers market. I picked my first Chocolate Nugget
yesterday and my first Orange Hab last week. I also had 2 ripe Thai chiles.
The remaining Thais are still green and so are the habs. I have another 6
Chocolate Nuggets that are ripening and barely any buds or flowers for more.
This is the first time in 2 summers that this plant has produced anything.
Last year all I got were flowers and then they fell off. There was no pod
growth at all. This year the plant is amazing. It is only maybe 2-1/2 to 3
ft tall, in a big pot, and it has at least 20 of the pods on it. So happy
with the Chocolate Nuggets this year! Yeah.
By the end of September I should have a ton of Aji's and Thais and some
Habaneros. One plant still has only buds on it but only a single pod. I may
have to overwinter that one.
