Speaking as a menopausal woman and an herbalist: That old piece of mythology is absolute B.S. It's based on confusion between the good ol' hot-food sweats and hot flashes, two states which have nothing to do with each other. If anything, chiles are _helpful_ for many women during and after the Change; they certainly help with the joint pain and digestive changes many of us have, and they do not not NOT cause hot flashes. Even some very good herbalists like Susun Weed, whose /Menopausal Years the Wise Woman Way /was such a huge help to me in menopause, fall for this one, but it's just not true. > I have decided that I should throw caution to the wind and do the opposite. You go, girl! And do buy yourseelf a copy of Weed's book; most of it is brilliant. (Note the odd spelling of "Susun" when you search. And If you buy the first edition, ignore what she says about mammograms; at the time she wrote it, the amount of radiation used was much higher than it is today, and there really was some cause for hesitation. I hope her recommendation against them changed in the revision.) Rain @@@@ \ \ \ \ \ \
