Sorry that this response is so late BUT I just returned from 16 days on the road, from NJ to FL and back - with stops in D.C., Charleston, Savannah, Summerville, WV, and Pittsburgh, PA.

Hi Fred. I'm in NJ. I've been a chile-head since 1999, if I'm not mistaken. It could be 1998. I don't remember exactly.  I grow about 10-16 chile plants every summer in my raised bed along with about the same amount of heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and some greens. Last year I had to buy my plants from a local nursery and only had 6 plants but they gave me a ton of chiles. Some summers I get a really good harvest, some Summers I don't.

I just returne from vacation and found that my raised bed was looking pretty good. Only 2 of my 16?? plants have green pods on them, the rest either have buds or flowers. I am sooo looking forward to tasting the peppers - from mild to crazy hot.

I am not really a Moderate Type the rest of the Corps that has been posting a lot lately. I am sort of in the middle between Moderate and Crazy Hot (but I am not big on the capsaicin oil type sauces). I love my chipotles BUT I also adore a good habanero here-and-there. On vacation, I try and buy as many local sauces as I can find. This trip was no different. I found 3 sauces, 3 bbq sauces, and a couple of jars of powdered seasoning - all of which I can't wait to use.

Welcome to our little group. There will be more and more talk of different chiles - when folks don't have any growing questions or answers or any chile-related cooking things to talk about, they tend to talk about what types of chiles they prefer - from mild to craaazyyyyy hot. Just delete the threads that don't seem all that interesting to you and read the ones that you find to your likin'. We won't mind if you delete the threads that you find objectionable. I do it all the time.

I just joined the list and wanted
coffee and bacon and other things, but not much
 about peppers.
I have a small garden here in the state of Ohio. My garden has 168 pepper
plants this year - from high sweet to heavy heat.
I enjoy them all. I started eating the Hungarian's and the Jalapeno's last
week. My Jalapeno's have lots of heat and flavor, but the Hungarian's only
have heat. Perhaps with the cool weather this week they will produce more
sugar for more flavor. Anyhow, that time of year is here for fresh peppered
 food! Enjoy your day,
 They call me PepperHeadFred...
