[CH] Salsa

Last September, when I had an abundance of peppers and tomatoes, I made
several quarts of salsa, poured it into freezer bags and froze it. Tonight,
while rummaging through the freezer, I found the forgotten bags of salsa.
Took one bag out, thawed and tested. Although the heat index has decreased
considerably, the taste was still great! A bit of dried peppers added to
the frozen salsa got the heat back up to par.

This was my first attempt at freezing salsa, but not the last.

A few months ago, there was a chile-riddle. I never figured out the answer.
Now I need that answer. I know that the answer was posted, but figuring
that I'd never forget the answer, I didn't save it. Can someone please give
me that answer?

The riddle went like this:

A farmer leaves home to go to the market with some Chiles to sell.
There are 3 toll bridges on the way from his farm to the market.

When he comes to the first bridge, the toll collector says "I
want half your Chiles plus 1/2 a Chile", which the farmer gives him.

When he comes to the second bridge, the toll collector says "I
want half your Chiles plus 1/2 a Chile", which the farmer gives him.

When he comes to the 3rd bridge, the toll collector says "I want
half your Chiles plus 1/2 a Chile", which the farmer gives him.

After crossing the 3rd bridge, the farmer has no Chiles left. The
question is 'How many Chiles did he have when he left his farm'?

Thanks in advance.
