you can actually do the very same procedure with mushrooms and then 
deep fry them.  Used to make mushroom poboys in a vegetarian 
restaurant at which I once worked. Used a cornmeal/flour mixture that 
was quite nice...

IMO, ain't *nothing* like fried shrooms, bad for ya or not...

Don't buy Pictsweet brand tho...they're being baaaad to their union 
employees...(political plug for the month...pardon me please...)
