I ventured over to BUY.com, and the only book I found by Harold McGee was 
"The Curious Cook: More Kitchen Science and Lore".

Was this the book being referred to?

For anyone who hasn't checked buy.com before: my DW found the site on 
chance, but what a great find. They compete with Amazon, and buy.com's 
prices are usually quite less than Amazon, plus they offer free shipping! 
Items I've received in the past came rather quickly.

Just something to ponder there.

One more note: anyone who likes Dave Dewitt's books, they have 18 of them.
(And nooooo, this is no endorse thingy, I just like the site)
